Drugstore primer never really hit the mark for me and I have very specific problems with them. They tend to be too heavy, too slippery, too silicony...or just not great for my skin type. Today we'll try to change that while I introduce you to my new favorite drugstore primer.
The Trend It Up Hydro Vitamin Primer is the newest addition to the Trend It Up range of products. It's a hydrating primer with hyaluronic acid, vitamins E,F and B5. It's a gel primer which is supposed to prolong makeup wear, hydrate the skin and keep it nourished through the day. It retails for 4.25 Euros at DM drugstore as its their residential brand.
The primer comes in a plastic bottle with a pump where you get 50ml which is quite a decent amount for the price. It's a lightweight gel formula that sinks in quickly and smells nice and fresh but not overwhelming. It feels very hydrating but not too much so it doesn't feel slippery and it also has a slight tackiness to it so it feels like it could grip the makeup in place.
When you first look at it it looks like a dupe for the Smashbox Vitamin Glow primer but I've never tried that one so I cannot really compare them fairly. This one really impressed me with its texture when I first saw it and I thought that I just had to try it out.
It's one of those primers where you cannot go overboard because it will sink in even if you do. It's very pleasant texture that doesn't leave a residue and I feel like if you need a primer and you're on a budget this is a great universal option. This type of primer usually works under many different foundation textures.
Wear test
I wore the primer with one of my usual foundations which tends to go quite matte on me through the day. The main property of the primer I wanted to test is longevity of the makeup and also hydration.

Wear time 8 hours
I feel like 8 hours is a good mark and I have to go film something so I have to take my makeup off preferably right now. As I said, this foundation gets dry on me through the day quite quickly and I would say that I see a big difference when using it with this primer. There are no dry patches on my face and also no separation which is usually caused by dryness in my case.
The makeup doesn't feel heavy on the skin, the skin doesn't seem to be dehydrated and overall the look is still presentable. It's budging here and there but that is caused mostly by my presence at online calls and talking. I also touched my face a lot today because I kept forgetting that I'm wearing makeup. That is also partially responsible for some of the budging. Overall though, I would say that this looks better than usual. This foundation is way better with hydrating primers as you can see.
Evaluation
I did a wear test with this primer as you saw above but it's very hard to wear test primers. The whole makeup condition depends on many, MANY factors and it is hard to assess the primer correctly. However, I can give you a couple specifications which I saw when using this primer and assess those.
Hydration 8/10
I suffer from dehydrated skin and especially when I wear makeup for a long time I tend to get very dry. The dryness usually end with makeup separation and dry patches all over my face. This primer keeps my face nicely hydrated for a very long time and I would say it's probably one of the best 10 hydrating primers I own that are also very lightweight and could be used on oily skin.
Makeup longevity 7/10
I wore this primer on multiple occasions with many different foundations and it certainly does not shorten the wear time. I feel like the hydration helps my makeup weartime in general and the grip effect it has because it's a little tacky helps too. So from my observations I would say that it helps the makeup wear a bit for sure.
Texture 10/10
Texture has to be 10/10 for me because it's the perfect gel primer texture but it's nicely hydrating and tacky. And it also sinks in super fast so I would recommend this primer to literally anyone because it's just fab. I would almost use this as a moisturizer if I didn't mind the slightly tacky finish.
Final thoughts
You probably guessed it, this is currently my ride or die drugstore primer. The texture is perfect, the finish is great, it sinks in but hydrates but holds the makeup and doesn't dry me out. It's just everything I need in a reasonably priced bottle with a pump for just a couple Euros.
I would recommend this primer to really anyone. If you have oily skin and you like hydrating primers this is going to be your new favorite. If you have any other skintype up to super dry you will love it too. Super dry skin might not have enought hydration just from this primer so pair it up with more hydration in the skin prep stage and you're good to go.
It plays well with any makeup and really makes a great hydrated and sticky canvas for your foundation to go on. I especially love it with tinted moisturizers because it prolongs their wear quite decently. I would say go and get it while they have it. Trend It Up did this REALLY well.
