Here we go again! You thought I've had enough of bronzers, huh? Well, let's get to another one. This time, I was wondering through Rossmann and a sale at RL de Young stand caught my eye. Almost all of their loose powders were on sale and amongst them, this gem.
Chocolate Bronzing Powder sounds like a regular chocolate-themed bronzing product, but hold your hats. This is a bronzer in a loose powder form. This just blew my mind in the store. I've never seen it, I love weird stuff, I needed to buy it. That's how I make majority of my purchases. So let's dive into the powder.
RL de Young is Rossmann's brand, if I'm correct, and they make some pretty decent products. I really like their setting powders, nail polishes, eyeshadow to some extend, lip products and loose pigments. They're in the "Essence drugstore zone" for me and they are a very affordable brand. That's why I got excited when I saw that sale is happening. Cheap brand on sale, that's a fantasy.
The product itself comes in a loose powder component, that is the same for all of their loose powdery products. It's quite a small packaging, which I always liked for travelling, and it always comes with a nice quality powder puff that is very soft and actually usable (I'm looking at you, nonsense flat tiny brushes!). It does smell very nice and looks a little bit scary to use. In fact, I've had this bronzing powder for weeks at this point and I just didn't have the balls to use it. But one day, I will, because I have to put how it looks into this post.
The powder is very finely mild and also very pigmented. I was expecting it to be quite patchy, since it's a loose powder, but when I swatched it looked pretty even and nicely distributed. Here are swatches of a few of my bronzers. You can tell, that this one is a bit darker / more pigmented because the loose texture is harder to swatch. In this case, I have no idea how it's going to apply on the face and I am very curious to see.
I purchased it for 49 Crowns (around 80 Crowns regularly, I guess...) and you get 5,5g of product. Not a whole lot, but I assume you won't need as much of it, because it's loose. It also smells like chocolate, which I don't mind and it does appear quite matte. The texture is a little deceiving, so it may be different on the skin. I can imagine that loose bronzer with a sheen would probably have glitter mild in the formula and I don't see any glitter yet, so I guess we're dealing with a matte bronzer.
I already own one of their bronzers and that one is also chocolate-themed and it even looks like a bar of chocolate. I purchased that one, because it was the only cool toned bronzer I've seen in the drugstore to that day, so I just needed it to not look orange all the time. I didn't use bronzers for the longest time, because I just couldn't find a good color for my pale skin tone. Thank god we live in a golden age of drugstore nowadays.
This is me wearing this loose magic. It's a little more pigmented than I usually like in a bronzer but it blends really well and it's not too difficult to brush away some excess product, when it's too much.
It's hard to take a picture where you want to bronzer to stand out without looking crazy, but you can kinda see it on my forehead and on my cheeks. It's a really nice color, it's not too shimmery or matte and it did last on my face a good few hours. I feel like the key thing is to set it with a setting spray. Loose powders just need that setting spray action to melt into the skin and look more natural. And also, so the loose things on your face don't fly around everywhere.
It's a little tricky to apply with a fluffy brush, but it's a really nice color and the little bit of sheen it has just really looks beautiful. I will have to overcome the fear of it flying everywhere, but as a product I really enjoyed using it.
Final Thoughts
Would I recommend this bronzer? If you feel tempted to try it and you think it could work well for you, go for it! It's cheap, it's really nice texture and tone and if your skintone fits the match, then I would recommend trying it out, at least because of the sensation of it. It's a fun experience being terrified of a bronzer and then seeing that it's actually OK and it looks really pretty. I am surprised at how many "weird" products tend to work for me really well, but I like trying out new things and this is not a bad bronzer at all.
Do you have any cool and unusual products you like? Let me know down in the comments and thanks for reading!
