There are a couple of drugstore brands I just trust when it comes to foundations. One of these brands is Catrice and my oh my they just came out with a foundation that tickles my fancy a great deal.
The Catrice True Skin Hydrating Foundation is a new addition to the Catrice foundation family. We all know the iconic dropper foundation and the Clean ID BB cream which I really liked but here we have something brand new. I bought it at the drugstore for 189 Crowns which is a fine price but it's not super cheap. I have the shade 004 Neutral Porcelain.
There are 4 shades in the drugstore which is a horrible shade range and the shades almost looked the same on my skintone. Apparently in total there are 6 shades so Catrice is showing us how not to do it again. This is just not a good shade range people. As I said I have the shade 004 Neutral Porcelain and it's nice that they actually added undertone sign on the bottles so you can pick the shade a little better.
The packaging is simple, it's a glass bottle with a plastic pump and a lid. I like the rose-gold detail and that you can actually see the foundation and there's no frosted glass bullshit. You get 30ml of product. The foundation is supposed to be longwearing and contains hyaluronic acid and watermelon seed oil. It has natural matte finish and medium to high coverage with a comfortable skin-like feeling. It's also vegan and microplastic free.
I am very confused here. I was really expecting a sheer, hydrating, dewy foundation from the feel of this product. And here we are with a hydrating foundation with matte finish. I cannot wait to see how this works because I have a feeling that matte finish won't really help my dry skin after a couple hours. But let's see before we judge. According to the description it looks like a little boosted version of the HD Liquid Coverage foundation that everybody loved and I'm curious to see if I like this one better.
Wear test
I did the weartest mostly because I knew that the day I picked is going to be hectic and I actually won't work from home for once. I wore a mask the majority of the day so that might move the results and weartime of the foundation a little bit. But these days, we all wear masks anyway, right?
I applied the foundation with my Juno & co. fuzzy sponge and I used 2.5 pumps of the foundation. It has a really nice coverage but a little goes a very long way. It's easy to go overboard and look really cakey and heavy. I played with it before this weartest and it looked terribe on me because I used too much. This time I went light-handed and worked slowly in larger sections. The foundation spreads like a dream. The coverage is medium to high for sure and it looks very glamorous and flawless on the skin. It's also very lightweight.

Wear time 11 hours
It's really hard to judge a foundation when you have to wear a mask and put it on and off all day long. My mask has a lot of makeup on it because I was sweating, running after some public transport multiple times and it's been a busy day in general. Therefore I knew that it's going to look horrible around my nose and below my glasses where the mask touches the face.
The foundation mostly separated in areas where it was under the mask like my chin, around the nose, around my mouth and slightly on the cheeks because there's the mask rim. On my forehead and the perimeter of my face it lookes amazing. Very skinlike, not too dry of too shiny. I wasn't oily at all at the uncovered areas and it looked pretty good even between my eyebrows. That's usually my problem area and it looked pretty fine after 11 hours of sweating all day long. It's been raining, I had my raincoat on and that's a nightmare even when it's really cold outside. You get so sweaty in that coat it's impossible. Anyway, I am quite impressed given the circumstances of the test how well it held up.
Final thoughts
Overall, I really like the texture of the foundation and the coverage. The formula is really interesting and I love how thin and high coverage it is. It feels quite hydrating on the skin but it's not dewy or glowy, it's a skinlike matte feeling more than anything else. I am fully OK with that, I just didn't expect it at all.
The price is OK, the shade range is horrible but I actually think that this is a good product and I recommend checking it out. It's not your average matte foundation and it's not your average natural finish foundation. It has something from both worlds. I would say it's really longwearing and it looks good, plays good with different textures and doesn't patch up even on my sweaty skin and dry forehead. I would give it a shot if you're looking into buying a new foundation. I also like it a lot more than the original Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation, I feel like this one is way better in terms of performance and the feeling of the product on your skin in general.
