CATRICE | ONE DROP COVERAGE WEIGHTLESS CONCEALER | REVIEW

At this point, we all know the iconic Catrice Liquid Camouflage concealer, which took the makeup world by storm. Catrice just does some great complexion products, will this one be a hit as well?

The Catrice One Drop Coverage Weightless Concealer looks a little intimidating to me to be honest. It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper, but it's so tiny. It looks very interesting and it does catch your eye in the drugstore for sure. But is it just a gimick? Let's find out. It's supposed to be full coverage, sweatproof concealer with hyaluronic acid. Apparently, one drop is all you need for full coverage.

The concealer comes in 8 shades, which is not great, but at least they vary in undertones. The depth of the range is very not sufficient though. I have the shade 003 Porcelain, which was the lightest shade at the time I bought it. It has a yellow undertone, which I enjoy in my concealers since they cover my undereye bags better. You get 7ml of product for 119 Crowns, which is well comparable to the original Catrice concealer.

To be honest right away, I hate the dropper. It's so tiny that it's impossible to put it back into the bottle without making a mess and overflowing the bottle, I just hate it. It's also really messy because you can't really drop it precisely enough. You have to put it somewhere and then work from that surface to really place it where you want. That's important especially if you want to highlight with it. Those are some negative thoughts about the concealer I have so far.

The possitives are that it's really super full coverage concealer. There aren't many concealers in my collection which cover this well. It's very lightweight, which I love and it blends very well. A little goes a very long way because it's very watery and I still can't believe that this thin formula can have such good coverage. I like that it's quite dewy and hydrating because it doesn't emphasise my texture. When I use very matte concealers under my eyes, I get very textured throughout the day and I have little bumps under my eyes. Concealers like this one, that are more hydrating, don't to that to me.

But since it's dewy you have to be careful when setting it. Sometimes dewy concealers don't work well with every powder and you have to look for powders which are more hydrating or have a slight sheen rather than using super matte oil controlling powders. With this one, be aware that it can get a little crusty when you use super matte powder.

Wear test

I decided to use the concealer on its own for one day and with a foundation another day to really test it's performance.

Day 1

Today I used the concealer with the well known Catrice drop foundation to see how they work together, since that's something that comes to mind when you see the dropper. I applied the foundation with a brush, went over it with a sponge and applied the concealer from my metal pallete with a sponge as well. It applied well, a little goes a long way and it has quite a dewy finish to it. The coverage is very good, full for sure. The undertone is quite yellow and maybe next time, I would go for more neutral shade, but I like how it covered the darkness bellow my eyes.

I did set it with powder after taking this photo, because the dew was just too much. It's very hydrating though and I enjoy hydrating concealers a lot, because they don't emphasise the texture I have under my eyes.

Wear time 8.5 hours

I couldn't make it any longer, but the concealer has a really good lasting power. Usually concealers give up after a couple hours and you can see darkness under the eyes quite well, this one didn't give up at all. It was a little dry and crusty looking, but that's something to be expected when you set a very dewy concealer with a very matte powder. However, the coverage stayed flawless and full. I'd say that it did oxidize a little bit, because under the eyes it looked a little darker when I removed the makeup than at the start of the day. Overall though, I am very impressed.

Day 2

Today I used the concealer by itself just with a tinted primer to get some coverage across the whole face. I applied it with a brush this time, working from my metal pallete. I managed to apply less product that the first day and it didn't look as dewy. The coverage is still very full and you cannot really see any blue under my eyes. It blended well but I had to work a little faster, because the thinner layer of the concealer dried a lot faster. I am very happy with the results though.

I also set my face with a more hydrating powder, which I know doesn't make my face dry through the day, so we will see how that works.

Wear time 8.5 hours

I look very worn out to be honest. And I am. So the thing that was actually breaking appart on me was the tinted primer, because I did a pretty intense workout today. Therefore, I don't look very fresh. To be honest, the concealer itself worked pretty well until the end of the day. I was touching my face a lot as well and I did take a shower and a bunch of the water got onto my face. Even after all that my concealer wasn't breaking appart. I would say it really is waterproof, because under my eyes and on my chin and nose it was still there and holding strong. It did also look less crusty and cakey then the first day, because I chose a better powder for this concealer for sure. I would wear this as a foundation, it looks like it would work very well and wear well too. Maybe if I mix it with a bit of tinted moisturizer or BB cream it might increase the coverage and the longevity.

Final thoughts

Overall, I would say that the product itself is great. I'm not a big fan of the tiny dropper, it can get very messy, but it's a nice way of getting people to notice the product. Still, I would appreciate a normal concealer wand.

It is full coverage, very lightweight and pretty hydrating. You have to be a little careful with choosing the right powder to set it, because it can get a little crusty under the eyes after 7 hours or so. But if you don't go for fully matte powder, it looks just fine.

Except for the application I am actually very pleased with this concealer and I have to reach for it more. I am just being distracted by the packaging because I don't want to get my pallete out everyday to actually use it. But I would say that in some ways I prefer it to the original Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer. It's less dry, doesn't emphasise my texture under the eyes and it covers better for sure.
