At this point, I think everyone actually knows this foundation. It's not new, it's been talked about and loved for such a long time. I think it's a drugstore classic at this point. However, I haven't worn in it a while and in the past, I wasn't very good with makeup to be honest. So let's give this cult classic a shot now, that I know (kinda) what I'm doing.
The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is such an old time classic. It claims to last up to 24 hours, it has a mattifying second skin effect and it's supposed to be lightweight, non-oily, full coverage foundation that won't give you a mask effect. Since it's HD, it should provide you with a camera-ready finish.
It comes in a frosted glass bottle with a dropper and you get 30ml for 200 Crowns. The price is very fair in my opinion and that was the first reason why people actually were interested in it back in the day. It looks very nice, feels heavy and expensive and looks quite luxurious as well.
They did expand the shade range quite a lot since the day it launched. Now, there are 7 shades. Which is still bad, don't get me wrong, but I remember like 3. On amazon.com I actually found 24 shades, so maybe it's just that european market doesn't get every shade. I used to use shade 010 Light Beige, but now that there are more shades, I use 002 Porcelain Beige, which has a nice neutral undertone and it's very pale, just like me.
I have worn this foundation back in like 2012 when I just started with makeup and I used to really like it. My skin was a lot more oily back then so I remember that it's quite a matte foundation. Applying it now, yes, it's very matte and it really dries down and dries your skin out as you wear it. It applies well with both sponge and a brush, but I prefer starting with a brush to really distribute it everywhere and then going in with a sponge to smooth it out. That way I get maximum coverage and a smooth finish.
It is full coverage for sure, you can tell when applying it. But it's not too heavy in texture, I'm actually surprised that this foundation has the lightweight texture it promises considering the formula is pretty old. It doesn't look like a mask but it covers very well. It's easy to sheer out since it's pretty matte and very liquidy and a little goes quite a long way, so if you're not into super full coverage, you can adjust it however you like.
I have normal-dry skin and I really recommend using hydrating primer under this foundation. It's very matte and as it sits down, it starts to feel very dry. It looks very smooth and flawless once you powder it down or just let it sink in. I never had issues with applying anything on top of it, creams of powders. It has a very subtle fragrance, which is very hard to describe. It's not annoying and it doesn't stick to you at all but it's there.
Wear test
I am doing a one-day wear test, because we're still in the quarantine, so it doesn't matter how many days I sit with the foundation on my face. I decided to use powder products, because I've been doing another post which required it, so today we won't be using any creams. I did powder the whole as I usually do, even though this foundation is very matte. The dew under my eyes is the dropper Catrice concealer, which is very hydrating and dewy.
In the picuture you can see how it looks right after the application I described earlier. I have a very hard time blending this foundation just with a sponge, it's just patchy and doesn't distribute well.

Wear time 8.5 hours
Somewhere around 4-5 hours, this foundation always takes a twist on me. Even when I use a very hydrating primer, like I used today, it just starts to separate and budge and look extremely dry everywhere. I did workout today, not too hard though so I didn't sweat too much, so I would expect it to last a lot better according to its claims. I don't know, maybe it's just my skin type but this foundation is just too drying after a couple hours and it just doesn't want to last on me at all no matter what. There are certain areas, like my cheeks, where is looks decent but every other place on my face where my skin moved just slightly, it's just bad. Even after you try to refresh it a bit with a more hydrating face mist, it still doesn't look great.
Final thoughts
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person out there, but I just don't like this foundation. Upon application it looks great and smooth and flawless, but all that fades away very fast. No matter how much I hydrate, it's still looking extra dry in a couple hours and it just doesn't last on my skin with any primer.
This might be the case just for me, so let's also focus on some positives. The coverage is great, the blendability is good with a brush and it's possible to make it look very smooth and flawless without looking heavy. Even after hours and hours it doesn't look heavy at all, it just doesn't last on my skin. So if you want something matte, maybe if you have very oily skin, and you like that flawless but lightweight full coverage look, this might be a great option. The price on this foundation is great and if you can match yourself within the shade range, it might be good to give this one a try. For me though, I don't think I'll give this another try when I go through this bottle.
Do you like this foundation or does it not work for you like it doesn't work for me? Let me know in the comments and thanks for reading!
