Everytime there's something new in my favorite drugstore I just cannot help myself. I love trying new affordable stuff and recently we've been blessed with a Rival Loves Me brand.
Rival Loves Me is a new brand from Rossmann's variety of makeup brands. In Czech Republic, we used to have RL de Young and this is supposed to be a kind of replacement. The whole display is beautiful and some of the products are brand new. There are also some products which were sold previously by RL de Young, just with new packaging. I used to buy makeup bits quite frequently from RL de Young so I was excited by this new brand because they have some great products.
I took some complexion products, lip products, eye products...a little nail mask as well. So there's quite a good selection of products to go through. All the products were very affordable and since I already lost the bill, I won't be able to give you exact prices.
Triple Filter Make-Up
This foundation already deserved its own post, so if you want to hear in detail about it, head over here -> https://mesearcher.wixsite.com/madeupmesearch/post/rival-loves-me-triple-filter-makeup-first-impressions-wear-test
Long story short, it's a semi-matte foundation which claims to perfect the skin and hydrate it through the day. It's about 109 Crowns for 30ml of product which is nice. However, the shade range is really bad and I was dumb enough to pick up the middle shade, which is just tooooooo dark for me. However I then purchased the lightest shade and it works quite well for me. Info on longevity and other abilities of this product are in the mentioned post.
Marshmallow HD Compact Powder
I don't know why I'm so much into large packaging. I know I don't have much room for it but I still really like it. This powder comes in a huge box, you get 8g of product and it was about 100 Crowns. The price is fair, however the packaging is a little ridiculous. It does really smell like marshmallows, that's for sure. I've tried is a couple times now and it's a very nice silky smooth powder but it's not super dry. I used it with a pretty hydrating foundations and I don't think it's increasing the wear time of anything beneath it too well. However, it's a nice powder if you don't like matte powders that will dry your skin out. It does have a little bit of a white cast if you overapply it, so just watch out for that. Other than that it's a really nice powder.
Blur Primer Drops with Cranberry Extract
This primer immidiatelly caught my attention mostly because the packaging is stunning. It's a blurring primer with cranberry extract. My skin loves a good anti-oxidant boost under the foundation, and you get 30ml for about 120 Crowns. That's a fair price. It smells nice, it has a little bit of glow to it but not glitter. So it does make your skin a little more healthy and glowy looking when you wear light coverage. It's also quite hydrating if you're more into the matte formulas. I really like it so far, it's a very versatile primer and even by itself it creates a nice look to the skin.
Candy Pastels Pallete
I was a little torn if I really need another pallete, but all the Rival Loves Me palletes look really nice and are very cheap. This one was 129 Crowns and it comes with 18 shades. They're all pastels, there are warm and cool tones as well. The mattes are really nice, I would say they're more pigmented than I expected but the shimmers are a little underwhelming. I will give this pallete another shot for sure, I just did a couple looks with it but overall, I would say that the quality is pretty good. I would say that palletes with less difficult palletes to create are going to be even better. I still have my eyes on the jungle pallete to be honest because the shimmers in that one look very nice according to swatches.
Long Lasting Eyeliner
This eyeliner has a really nice tone, I like the icy blue shade a lot. It's not as creamy as Essence eyeliners for example but it does go on after a bit of swiping and it does last very well. I have the shade 07 aquamarine and I believe it was about 65 Crowns. It's a very good price for an eyeliner but I feel like I need to try more shades to be sure if the formula makes it into my top 5 liners.
Never Seen Before Mascara
I bought a mascara as well because I was running out of the one I currently use. I usually don't really care about which mascara I use and I just liked the packaging of this one so I thought I might as well give it a shot. It was about 80 Crowns I believe and it's a nice one. It's a very thin formula so it does make marks sometimes when I apply it but it doesn't irritate my eyes and it's almost undetectable by the feeling. It still gives you quite nice lashes, but it's nothing extra. It's very black, which I love, so it gives you a nice tint and a little bit of curl and separation. I don't really get much volume out of it, but that's not something I'm really after.
Brow Mascara Tinted Eyebrow Gel
I really like the shade I got in this brow mascara. I have the shade 01 ash blond and it's the perfect color of brow gel for me. It's literally my brows in a bottle. I quite like the applicator, it's small enough to really coat the brow hair well but the lasting power of this brow gel is not great. It doesn't really set the brows in place, it just tints them. Sometimes I don't really care that much for setting my brows but if I'm going for a very fluffy look, I want them to stay put and this product doesn't really work well for that. However you get a lot of product for about a 100 Crowns so it's a nice deal especially if you struggle to find a cool toned light brown brow mascara. You can always use a more fixing gel on top.
Nail Mask Peach Dream
This one is a little random but I really enjoy using this nail mask. It's a lot more nourishing and thick than all the oils I used to use on my nail and I really like how this mask works. It was pretty cheap, I don't remember the price, but I would say I prefer it to any oil I've tried from the drugstore. It's making my nailbeds feel a lot more nourished than any other product I've used so far.
KISSable Lipgloss
Say hello to my new favorite gloss. This lipgloss is bomb. I got the shade 07 never stop and it's such a throwback. It reminds me so much of an Essence lipgloss I used to use back in the day when we did the concealer lips. There are many shade but I got the most nude, brown, pale one I could find I really love it. The formula is not sticky, it's pigmented enough but not too much where you feel like you'll be in trouble if you miss the line. It's just so perfect. It has quite a lot of shine but it's not slippery and it smels good. Also it has like an hourglass applicator, so it hugs the lips just perfectly. It was about 70 Crowns I think and oh boy, I'm coming back for more shades because this is an amazing product.
Juicy Color Lipsick
I thought this is a liquid lipstick. I don't know why I just assume that with every lipstick these days. However, I was very intrigued by the size and the shade of this lipstick. I don't remember the price, I think it was about 70 Crowns maximum and it's really nice. It has such a slim tube that you can just apply it straight on and don't even really need a lipliner. It smells nice, a little bit like baked goods and it feels and looks very nice on the lips as well. I'm quite happy with this purchase even though I wasn't really going for a cream lipstick at all. I have the shade 04 and it's a nice brown-peach nude.
Lipliner
You don't see an orange lipliner in the drugstore every day. It's a very rare occasion, because orange lipliners just don't have enough fans I guess. I got the shade 04 apricute and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It was about 50 Crowns, a good price, but the formula is a little odd. It's a sharpenable pencil, which is ok with me, I know some people hate that. It's very creamy but it's very metallic. I wasn't really looking for a metallic orange to be honest. The tone of it is great but I really wish it was a matte formula. However, if you like more shine on your lips I think you'd really like it no matter how metallic it is. I quite like it still, but it's not for everyday for me.
Final thoughts
Overall, I really enjoy exploring everything new and Rival Loves Me is just a nice affordable brand that has impressed me so far. I like everything I've purchased and I still feel like coming back for more.
My favorite products so far are the lipgloss, lipstick, foundation, primer and mascara. I've used those the most and I've really enjoyed it. Especially the primer feels like a product I'll come back to very often because I've loved RL de Young primers before.
